George Stubbs (1724-1806) was an English painter, best known for his paintings of horses. Born in Liverpool, England, he began his career as a portrait and landscape painter. However, he soon became interested in the anatomy of horses and began to study them in detail. Stubbs is best known for his series of paintings entitled 'The Anatomy of the Horse', which he completed in 1766. These paintings show the horse's skeleton, muscles and organs in great detail and were used as a reference by veterinarians and artists for many years. In addition to his anatomical studies, Stubbs also painted many portraits of horses, often showing them in action or at rest. His paintings are renowned for their accuracy and attention to detail and are considered some of the finest examples of equine art. Overall, George Stubbs is considered one of the greatest equine painters in the history of art, and his work continues to be admired and studied by artists and art lovers around the world.
