Summary

This week’s photograph is unusal as it’s the passage of the former George and Dragon Inn (now known as The Monk’s Walk) taken from the Eastgate end. The passage runs between Highgate and Eastgate. The lady in the photograph peering around the door, could possibly have been the Landlady at the time..The entrance from Highgate may have been known as ‘Blizzard’s passage’ in the late 19th century, named after the victualler, Robert Blizzard. (1887 up to 1916)..The Public House itself in the shadow of Beverley Minster dates back to 1658, is steeped in history and was made a grade II listed building in the 1950s...(Why not try searching our East Riding of Yorkshire Map ( ...erarchives/map ) for more historic images? .erarchives/map ( ...erarchives/map ) )..(Copyright) We're happy for you to share this digital image within the spirit of Creative Commons. .Please cite 'East Riding Archives ( http://www2.eastriding.gov.uk/leisure/archives-family-and-local-history/ ) ' when reusing. ..Certain restrictions on high quality reproductions and commercial use of the original physical version apply.
