Frederick Sandys - Reflection - Public domain portrait drawing
Summary
The model for this work was Mary Emma Jones. Sandys first met her in 1862 in Norwich where she was working with a traveling theater company. She modeled for him and he fell in love with her, bearing a child in 1866. Four other daughters followed, including Winifred, whose work is also included in the Museum's Bancroft Collection. The couple remained together until Sandys’ death in 1904. (see references)
