The burial of 199 victims of the Otranto disaster at Kilchoman, Islay, Scotland. The firing squad consisted of members of the local company of "Home Guards", men well over the military age who are enrolled for various subsidiary military duties. On one side of the firing squad are seen the two pipers, playing a "mournful lament" or dirge on their bag-pipes. On the other side are the colorbearers, a Scotch Highlander in Kilts are carrying the British flag, and one of the American survivors carrying the Stars and Stripes. The two flags are lowered to the ground during the firing of the last salute to the dead
