Erika Fernanda's motor lays aboard the fishing vessel after the interdiction took place. During a patrol the Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton (WMSL-753) crew identified a suspicious Ecuadorian long line fishing vessel in a known smuggling area in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Under an agreement with the Government of Ecuador and on their behalf, a U.S. Coast Guard law enforcement team conducted a boarding of the Fishing Vessel Erika Fernanda and eight smaller panga style fishing boats she was towing.
