The founder of the Luminism art direction is the Belgian Emile Klaus (1849–1924), an artist who has made an invaluable contribution to the art of Belgium, in many ways, determined its modern development. Luminism is one of the brightest trends of post-impressionist painting, has conquered many Belgian, Dutch, and French artists. Starting from the basic principles of Impressionism, luminism took as a basis its important characteristic – the play of light and shadow.
