Thespelling in this will seems strange, but spelling was not standard-ized before 1700, even among the educated; witness the Historyof Plymouth by Gov. Bradford, of college education. Thomas10 Shed married about 1596, Katharine who survived him.

Thomas, b. about 1599; is mentioned in his fathers will asliving in 1637, but there is no mention of him in the registersof Finchingfield, nor does he appear in any parish about it inthe whole of Hinckford Hundred in the Protestation Roll ofFeb. 1641/2, naming all males over eighteen years of age in eachparish. He settled about fifteen miles to the east, in Stanway,County Essex, where he d. in December 1639. The will of Thomas Shede of Stanway, County Essex, yeo-man, dated 15 Dec. 1639, names sons Nathaniel, Joseph andThomas, daughter Sarah, and step-son Robert Kingsbury, andrefers to an expected unborn child. Wife Elizabeth residuarylegatee and executrix. Witnesses: Stephen Brocke, AbrahamSmith, Robert Kingsbury. Proved by the executrix 16 Jan.1639/40.
