Constantin Jiquidi - Un concert-monstru saŭ supliciul uneĭ 'femeĭ... de stradă', Moftul Român, 17 iun 1893
Summary
Un concert-monstru saŭ supliciul uneĭ "femeĭ... de stradă" ("A Monster of a Concert or the Torment of a 'Street... Worker'"): an allegory of the vibrant and competing press in 1890s Romania, with the newspaper directors and columnists as organ grinders, marked after their respective titles, and public opinion as a prostitute, driven to despair by their noise. Recognizable figures include Alexandru Beldiman of Adevărul, Grigore Ventura of Timpul, and Mișu "Claymoor" Văcărescu (in drag) for L'Indépendence Roumaine.
