English: Small, very poisonous snake that kills immediately those that it bites. 1 Large rattlesnake, which is three fathoms long. If it bites someone, within twenty-four hours the person becomes very swollen. If one knows the secret to avoid the venom — one simply buries the injured part of the body for twenty- four hours — one does not feel any pain. Otherwise one is sure to die. 2 Picture of the eel. In the French colony, more than fifty thousand barrels of them are caught in three months every year.
