NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Aug. 21, 2012) Chief petty officer selectees assigned to USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), perform yard work at the home of retired Army Master Sgt. Loren 'Woody' Hoercher during a community service project. Eight chief selects assigned to George H.W. Bush completed various landscaping tasks at Hoercher's home as part of the six-week chief petty officer induction phase. Hoercher is a member of the Anzio Beachhead Veterans of World War II and the liaison to the guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio (CG 68), which served as part of the George H.W. Bush carrier strike group in 2011. George H.W. Bush is undergoing a planned incremental availability at Norfolk Naval Shipyard to refurbish shipboard systems and conduct maintenance.
