Chartran - La joueuse de mandore, 1879
Summary
Painting by Théobald Chartran showing a light-skinned Egyptian girl playing a long-necked lute. Although named for the mandore, it bears no resemblance to that short-necked instrument. The instrument played in the picture is closer to an Egyptian lute, or possibly a Coptic lute. Also resembles the sintir, but a smaller and higher pitched version of that bass instrument.
