Cathedral Fribourg vitrail Bischoefe 04
Summary
The detail does not show St. Martin on horseback as usual. He is standing as a legionary and divides his coat with his sword, half of which he gives to the beggar. According to legend, Christ appeared to him afterwards in a dream with his half of the coat. The two girls behind the saint symbolise the virtues of prudence and faith. The inscription above him QUOD UNI EX MINIMIS MEIS FECISTIS and the continuation at knee height MIHI FECISTIS (Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.) identify St. Martin
