Jacques-André-Joseph Aved, commonly known as Jacques Aved, was a French Rococo portraitist who was born on 12 January 1702 in Douai, France. He began his artistic career by studying under the painter François Lemoyne and later worked in the studio of Jean-Baptiste van Loo. Aved became famous for his portraits of the French aristocracy and bourgeoisie, which were characterised by their elegance, refinement and attention to detail. His paintings often depicted his subjects in luxurious clothing and surroundings, reflecting the opulence of the Rococo period. Aved's most famous work is his portrait of Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of King Louis XV. The painting captures her beauty and grace as well as her intelligence and wit. In addition to his portraits, Aved also painted historical and mythological scenes. His works were highly sought after by collectors and he enjoyed great success during his lifetime. Aved died on 4 March 1766 in Paris, France. His legacy lives on through his beautiful portraits, which continue to be admired and studied by art lovers around the world.
