Photograph shows Captain W.G. Schauffler, Jr. standing and Lieutenant Fred A. Tillman in the seat of a Ninetieth Aero Squadron (Pair-a-Dice" Squadron) airplane (Salmson 2A2). Caption from Catalogue of official A.E.F. photographs, 1919: "Capt. W. C. Schauffler, Jr. (standing), and Lieut. Fred A. Tillman in observer's seat of one of Ninetieth Aero Squadron planes. Lieut. Tillman is son of late Senator Tillman. Plane shows insignia of squadron, called " Pair-a-Dice " Squadron. Gun is a double Lewis machine gun. Ninetieth Aero Squadron, Seventy-ninth Division. Bethelainville, Meuse, France. November 18, 1918."
