A U.S. Air Force C-130E Hercules flies over the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on the North Carolina coast on Jan. 1, 1999. The Hercules is the Air Force's main transport for intratheater airlift. Capable of operating from rough, dirt, landing strips, the aircraft is the prime transport for dropping paratroops and equipment into hostile or remote areas. This Hercules is attached to the 2nd Airlift Squadron, Pope Air Force Base, N.C.
