Summary

See HABS No. KS-49 for list of structures that are contributing to the historic district & fieldnotes.
Significance: Outstanding example of relatively large residence with some architectural detailing. Existing vegetation include ornamental plants around public side of house and patterns in yard and around outbuildings which suggest circulation patterns which can be verified on old aerial photos. Depression on east side of house is typical dimensions of dugout/sod houses found elsewhere on townsite so site might demonstrate evolution of residential property. House abandoned in 1960's. Many personal papers and some furniture and clothes remain in house. House has deteriorated so much that it would be expensive to rehabilitate it. Note: House built by Benjamin Davenport in 1917 (Calvin Sayers' wife was Davenport's granddaughter.)
