Summary
Woodcut of tombstone of Flavinus, Roman standard bearer. The inscription reads: DIS MANIBUS FLAVINUS EQ ALEA PETR SIGNIFER TVR CANIDIDI AN XXV STIP VII H S (To the gods of the shades. Flavinus, a soldier of the cavlry regiment of Petriana, standard bearer of the troop of Candidus, being twenty-five years of age and having served seven years in the army, is here laid). The tombstone was discovered in 1881, and represents Flavinus riding roughshod over a defeated enemy.
