Bicentennial of the War of 1812 commemorations
Summary
Rear Adm. Michael Parks, Ninth Coast Guard District Commander, is piped aboard the Brig Niagara on the Detroit River Sept. 6, 2012 by sideboys who are members of the Coast Guard's Historic Ships' Company. The Historic Ships' Company wear period dress and bring to life the history of the Revenue Cutter Service, a predecessor service of the Coast Guard which fought during the War of 1812, the bicentennial of which is being commemorated around the country this summer.
