Arcades latérales de la section portugaise dans le palais du Champ-de-Mars
Summary
Portuguese section in the Palais du Champ-de-Mars, during the Paris 1878 World Fair. The outside façade of the Portuguese exhibit was modelled after the Batalha cloisters, which had been built by the Dominicans in the South of the country at the end of the fourteenth century. The late gothic style that characterized the original building would have been particularly appreciated at the time of the fair, since European nineteenth-century architecture had been influenced by a renewed taste for the gothic.
