Theecological features of plant-life are amply illustrated inthe high pineland, the flatwoods and hammocks with theirnumerous ponds and lakes which constitute Floridasbeauty. Zoology.—The animals are studied in their habits oflife and their relations to their surroundings; for the ob-servation of the lower orders the microscope is used. Theimportant anatomical features are learned from the dis-section of some typical forms. Students make concisenotes and drawings embodying the results of their ob-servations. Physiology.—The object of the course is to give thestudent a clear idea of the principal changes which takeplace during life in the organs and tissues of the healthybody; the anatomical and histological structure of thoseorgans and tissues will be explained as far as is neces-sary for a good understanding of their physiologicalfunctions. Hygiene will be treated in connection withthe various topics. 64
