Inscribed by the artist, as title, lower left. From left to right the ships in this drawing are an 'Iron Duke'-class battleship, the US.minelayer 'Aroostook' (1907, ex-mercantile 'Bunker Hill'), another 'Iron Duke'-class battleship, a US auxiliary minelayer, a 'Queen Elizabeth'-class battleship and the US auxiliary minelayer 'Canonicus (1899, ex-mercantile 'El Cid'). The drawing is of a celebration at Scapa Flow in the Orkneys of the end of the First World War in November or very early December 1918, since the American ships sailed from Portland (Dorset) for home on 11 December.
