Summary

Alexandra of Denmark - Princess of Wales

Alexandra of Denmark (Alexandra Caroline Marie Charlotte Louise Julia; 1 December 1844 - 20 November 1925) was the wife of King Edward VII, Queen Consort of the United Kingdom and Empress Consort of India. Born in Denmark, she was the eldest daughter of Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and Princess Louise of Hesse-Kassel. In 1863, Alexandra married Prince Albert Edward, the eldest son of Queen Victoria. As Queen Consort, she was renowned for her beauty, fashion sense and charitable work. She played an important role in promoting British interests abroad and was a popular figure with the British public. During her time as Queen Consort, Alexandra faced personal tragedies, including the death of her eldest son, Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale, in 1892. Despite these challenges, she remained a respected and influential figure. After her husband's death in 1910, Alexandra continued to be involved in charitable work and supported various causes. She lived a relatively quiet life in her later years, dying in 1925 at the age of 80. Alexandra of Denmark is remembered as a popular queen consort who brought grace and elegance to the British royal family at a time of great change and transition.
