"Allegory to the Establishment of the Academy of Fine Arts" (1840), by Norberto José Ribeiro. It is an allegorical painting, representing the establishment of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lisbon and Oporto. In an interior palace setting, in classical architecture, one can see, in the centre of the composition, a statue of Queen Maria II, over a plinth and surrounded by allegorical characters, both sitting and standing, dressed in the fashion of the Antiquity, representing the classical disciplins of the Fine Arts. To the right, standing and clad in armour, an allegory of Passos Manuel, Minister of the Kingdom, who signed the decrees that established the Academy.

Num interior palaciano de arquitectura clássica (vê-se parte de uma cortina, no topo) destaca-se, no centro da composição, sobre um plinto cilíndrico, a estátua da rainha D. Maria II, rodeada de personagens alegóricas, sentadas e em pé, trajando à moda da Antiguidade, representanto as disciplinas clássicas das Belas Artes, e à direita uma alegoria ao ministro Passos Manuel.
