description

Summary

Note the aerials and what looks like satellite dishes on the stern under the flight deck! Also an interesting photograph because the Wikipedia article on the carrier says she carried Douglas AD Skyraiders and Vought F4U Corsairs, yet the planes don't appear to have the correct tail plane for either of these types of plane...Format: Photograph..Find more detailed information about this photograph: 52723 ( http://52723 ) ...From the collection of the State Library of New South Wales ( )

Aircraft carriers are warships that act as airbases for carrier-based aircraft. In the United States Navy, these consist of ships commissioned with hull classification symbols CV (aircraft carrier), CVA (attack aircraft carrier), CVB (large aircraft carrier), CVL (light aircraft carrier), CVN (aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) and CVAN (attack aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion). The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
