Air-boat operations in Bayou La Batre, Ala.
Summary
BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala.- Petty Officer 2nd Class Lauren Thomas, a reserve member from Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, Fla., brings several large plastic bags and a roll of tape to a clean-up worker on an air-boat during a beach assessment patrol in support of the Deepwater Horizon Response on Coffee Island, Sept. 10, 2010. Volunteer workers sweep Alabama beaches and sensitive wetland areas daily in a search for hazards and potential signs of oil. Response air-boats in Alabama used in support of the Deepwater Horizon Response are required to have either a Coast Guard or Alabama Department of Environmental Management member aboard, to operate within the best management practices to limit impact on the environment. The Coast Guard continues to work with local, state and federal agencies in the cleanup and restoration of the Deepwater Horizon Response. U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 2nd Class Annie R.
