This portrait commemorates the illustrious 33-year career of Rear Adm. Erroll M. Brown who retired in 2005 as assistant commandant for engineering and logistics. The Coast Guard's top ranking engineer, Brown was responsible for naval, civil and aeronautical engineering and logistics and led more than 2,000 personnel. Earlier, he was commander of the 13th District in the Pacific Northwest. He also held senior positions aboard the Coast Guard icebreaker Burton Island and on several cutters including the Jarvis and the Rush. Scenes from these assignments and of units he commanded are depicted around the admiral's portrait. The highly decorated Brown was the recipient of the Legion of Merit, two meritorious service medals and the secretary's award among numerous others.
