Continuing our course, the steamer seems to be heading straight for the shore,until a narrow outlet comes suddenly into view, and we enter the Nebish Rapids,passing between Sailors Encampment and St. Josephs Islands. From this on is tobe seen the most varied and charming scenery. Indian villages, settlements andbeautiful farms, serve to make a more interesting panorama. Lake George, six milesfarther on, is an expansion of the river, nine miles long and four wide. It hasthirteen feet of water over the shoals, and terminates at Churchs Landing. SquirrelIsland, Canada, lies opposite. Garden River Settlement, three miles distant, is anIndian town in Canada. Little Lake George comes next, then Point Aux Pines.Three miles farther, we pass around the head of Sugar Island, and eight milesbeyond, reach Sault Ste. M
