Ferdinand Bol was a Dutch painter born in Dordrecht. He was a pupil of Rembrandt and became one of the leading portrait painters of his day. In addition to portraits, Bol also painted historical and biblical scenes. He was very successful during his lifetime and his work is still highly regarded today.
