A Fourth of July salute - Public domain image. Dry plate negative.
Summary
Photo shows a stern quarter view of Fourth of July salute fired from Brazilian Gunboat Tiradentes in 1893 during the Columbia Navy Review celebration. She is bark rigged and has a badge on her stern. She is flying a US flag from her main mast, which was done as a courtesy for this special event; the national pennant actually flies from her stern.
