Very hard, strong and durable, excelling Hickory in strength.Recommended for underground work in mines, and for railroad ties, bridges, etc.; ht. 100 ft. Peroz. $1.00. E. longifolia.— Woolly Butt. A large tree, of great girth, growing well in any soil. Timber is dur-able and makes excellent fuel. The leaves yield a volatile oil; ht. 200 ft. Per oz. 75c. E. maculata.— Spotted Gum. Wood as strong as English Oak. Extensively employed in ship build-ing and wheelwrights work; ht. 100 ft. Per oz. $1.00. E. marginata.— West Australian Jarrah. (Seecut.) Impervious to teredo and ants, and muchsought after for jetties and piles, and largely exportedfor railroad ties. The timber is easily worked andtakes a beautiful polish. Furniture made from thiswood is much admired. Of quick growth and im-mense size. Suited to dry, barren soils; ht. 200 ft.Per oz. 75c.
