WILSON'S SEED CATALOGUE FOK 1889. 103 The Rose Seedlinj This is one of our new varie- ties that we have tried and tested in various parts of the country- for the last three years, ^ and it has in every case given the best and most satisfac^torj- results. It seems to have the abilitv to withstand tlie drouth much better than many others. This ^\ e attribute to its vigorous growth and unusually large and leafv top, which forms an almost entire covering for the ground, thereby keeping it moist and cool, while smaller top or less vigorous kinds would allow the soil to become hard and drv bv the hot Midsummer sun. the" Rose Seedling is a seedling from the seed ball of the KarlvRose. Theappearance is ver\striking and entirely different from its parent in shape and form. The skin is :ep rose color, flesh snow white, dry- and mealy when cooked, and for baking or boil- ing p\irxx)ses it certainly has no superior. They are enormously productive, keeping well late in the Spring, and in every way a first-class and productive mar- ket potato. Our own crop the past season has been estimated bv competent judges at 400 bushels to the acre, ^\•ith only good ordinan,' cultivation, and we have received letters from persons who bought seed of us last Spring, claiming over fOO bushels to the acre. They ripen medium early, grow to a good size, verv compact in the hill, and are hearlv all fine market- able potatoes. Everj' one should give the Rose Seedling a trial. John Walker, Crawford Co., Kan., Oct. 10, 1888, writes: SAMfEL Wn>soN, Dear Sir: I want to let vou know about the potatoes we" got from you last Spring. The Stray Beauty was extm earlv and very nice, but the Rose "Seedlings takes the spots out of all the potatoes I have ever seen, we had them to weigh over 2 pounds. ^ They were excellent to eat, and sohd and nice. I never raised such potatoes in all my life. I think 1000 bushels could be raised on 1 acre. I don't want any better ix)tatoes to eat or yield, than the Rose Seedlings. Albert McClure, Greenland, \ew Hampshire, writes: Your The General McClellan.
