Born in Bordeaux, Danloux began his artistic training in Paris under Joseph-Marie Vien. He then traveled to Rome where he studied with Pompeo Batoni and Angelica Kauffman. Upon his return to France, Danloux became a member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1783. During the French Revolution, Danloux fled to London where he continued to paint portraits of British nobility. He returned to France in 1801 and was appointed court painter by Napoleon Bonaparte. Danloux died in Paris in 1809. Today, Danloux's works can be found in museums around the world, including the Louvre in Paris and the National Portrait Gallery in London.
