Zusammenfassung

The Garden City Post Office is located at 600 Franklin Avenue, Garden City, New York 11530. It is listed on the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places. As part of the New Deal - the response to the Great Depression spearheaded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt - the federal government undertook a massive program of public works projects, which often included commissions for public artwork. As part of this, the Treasury Section of Painting and Sculpture commissioned J. Theodore Johnson’s “Huckleberry Frolic,” an idealized depiction of a festival held historically in this area of Long Island.
