Anne-François-Louis Janmot (1814-1892) was a French painter and poet associated with the Symbolist movement. He was born in Lyon, France and trained as an artist under the famous painter Ingres. Janmot's early works were influenced by the Romantic movement and depicted historical and mythological scenes. However, he later turned to a more spiritual and mystical style, creating works that explored themes of death, rebirth and the afterlife. Among his most famous paintings are "The Poem of the Soul" and "The Evening Angel". Janmot also wrote several volumes of poetry, often illustrated with his own artwork.
