Isaac Levitan (1860-1900) was a Russian landscape painter, considered one of the greatest Russian artists of the 19th century. He was born in Kibarty, Lithuania, and grew up in Moscow. Levitan studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where he was strongly influenced by the work of the Russian realist painters of the time. Levitan's paintings are known for their lyrical and poetic quality, often depicting the beauty of the Russian countryside and its changing seasons. His work is characterised by a sense of melancholy and nostalgia, and he often used muted colours and soft brushstrokes to create a dreamlike atmosphere. Some of Levitan's most famous works include "Over Eternal Peace", "Golden Autumn" and "Vladimirka Street". His paintings have been exhibited in major museums around the world, including the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg.
