T HE Bell Systems contributions to the development of theart of radio telephony are principally suggested to thepublic mind in the present scope of the Systems overseasservice which, inaugurated in 1927, now connects Americantelephones with those in some 70 foreign countries. That these contributions have also been of vital importanceto the development of the aviation industry is not so generallyappreciated.
