The material is there and can be found whenthe mind is alert—when the ideal is followed—when the eye istrained to see the artistic. A most important point in the practice of photography isthe development of taste and accurate observation. Withoutthese little progress can be expected, and the lure of the fieldsoon wanes. Try to interpret nature in her most alluringmoods. It is necessary to educate the eye, to teach it whatto see, to teach it the effects of light and shade, of aerial per-spective, of value of colors. Experience and observation arethe best, if not the only, teachers covering these features.Study the various scenes and subjects under all their aspects atdifferent hours of the day and from several view points.
