Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (arm. Hovhannes Ayvazyan; (1817 –1900) ) was the most famous Russian marine painter. The main characters of his paintings are seascapes. He was recognized both on the territory of the Russian Empire and abroad. The saying “worthy of Aivazovsky’s brush”, popularized by Anton Chekhov, was used in Russia for describing something lovely. He remains highly popular in Russia
