Three-inch A.A. cartridge cases. Cartridge cases for three-inch antiaircraft shells are produced by a series of operations that transform a flat brass disc into a case ready for loading with propelling charge and shell. Between each operation there is careful washing to remove all scale and adhesion and to leave surfaces clean for later processing. The big Midwest plant doing the work is well equipped to handle it in stride

Washington, D.C. Scrap salvage campaign, Victory Program. People bring their junk to a retail junk yard in everything from a pushcart to a limousine

US Navy (USN) Aviation Ordnanceman First Class (AO1) Jason Faciszewski organizes cases of drinking water in the hangar bay of the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) for transfer by helicopter to the Gulf Coast shore in support of Hurricane Katrina relief operations

Filling the arsenals. Cartridge cases for ammunition are piling up by the thousands in the Army's arsenals. These have just come out of production at a large eastern arsenal

Production. War housing trailers. Pre-painted parts for the housing trailers are quickly dried in the force drying room of the Western Trailer Company of Los Angeles. In many cases, drying time is reduced from twenty-four to one or two hours, and great saving of space is effected

Three-inch A.A. cartridge cases. Loading antiaircraft cartridge cases into a stress-annealing furnace to make them soft, uniform and ductile, ready for succeeding machine operations. The equipment possessed by this big Midwest plant was well suited for producing these cases in large volume

Steam bath for cartridges. Washing 50 caliber cartridge cases between operations at a large eastern arsenal. This plant is working on full shift for war needs

A man in a hat is climbing a tree. Man tree climb.

Manpower. Negro navy yard workers. America draws its manpower from all citizens alike. This navy yard machinist is one of the many skilled Negro workers now speeding ship construction in a large Eastern yard

Work for steady hands. Carelessness does not mix with molten brass as the concentration of workers shows in this closeup of foundary operation at an eastern Navy yard
