Greenwich (Greenwich Hospital and River Thames) RMG PU2230

description

Summary

Greenwich (Greenwich Hospital and River Thames)

A plate from George Cooke's 'Views in London and its Vicinity', looking broadly west across the Greenwich Hospital frontage from off the George Tavern (replaced in 1837 by the Trafalgar Tavern). The crane on the wharf at the east end of the Five Foot Walk is visible. There is a considerable amount of rafted floating timber in the left foreground, a large press of shipping shown in the river, and also many Greenwich Pensioners and others crowding the Five Foot Walk. The Hospital Governor's flag (Admiral Sir Richard Keats at this time) flies over his residence at the north end of the King Charles Court.

See PAI8605, another copy.
