Widow of noted flyer receive medal. 12/13/30, Mrs. Florence Shaw Page receives the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded posthumously to the late Capt. Arthur H. Page, U.S. Marines, for this "pioneering" scientific [...] and successful accomplishment in the art of blind flying." The particular flight for which he received the medal was from Omaha to Anacostia, D.C., the distance of 1,000 miles having been made by flying blind the entire distance in one day. Capt. Page was also noted for having won the Curtiss Marine Trophy Race last spring, flying the 100-mile course at an average of 164 miles an hour. He died from injuries received when his plane crashed during the Thompson Trophy Race at Chicago last September. In the photograph, left to right: Maj. General Ben H. A new Flivver plane, powered with a Ford V-8 Motor and capable of a cruising speed of 95 miles an hour, was demonstrated to Eugene Vidal, Director of the Bureau of Air Commerce, Department of Commerce, today. The plane has a wing spread of 36 feet. A low gas mileage is claimed for the ship, 16 miles to the gallon, on its flight from St. Louis to Chicago in 2 hours, 33 minutes. Director Vidal is shown inspecting the motor with Hayden Campbell, of St. Joseph, Mo., who flew the plane here

The first passenger air line was established between St. Petersburg, and Tampa, Fla. with Tony Jannus, a Washington, D.C., boy, piloting the plane. Paul E. Garber of the U.S. National Museum has secured this model of the original Benoist plane, which was used on the first flight, for the national Aircraft Collection of which he has charge. The model will be formally presented to the museum by officials of the state of Florida at the Annual Convention of the National Aeronautic Association Jan. 15-17 at ST. Smithsonian gets model of first German plane to fly Atlantic. Washington, D.C., Oct. 26. A 20" scale model of the Bremen which made the first westward non-stop flight across the North Atlantic in 1928 has been received by the Smithsonian Institution from Germany. Miss Katherine Onsgard of Arlington, Virginia, a private flyer, is pictured holding the model of the plane which was flown from Germany by Capt. Hermann Koehl, Baron Zuenther Von Huenefeld, and Col. James Fitzmaurice. They made a forced landing on Greenly Island off the coast of Newfoundland, 10-26-38
